单词 conques
释义

conquesconqueisv.

Forms: Also 1500s -ys, -eas, 1500s–1600s -ess, 1600s -ise, -ish.
Etymology: Exact formation doubtful: possibly < conquese n.; or, like it, from the French past participle conquis, -ise (compare comprise, compromise); but it may have been from the earlier past participle conquest adj., by treating the t as the native suffix and taking conques as the stem. Conquest was subsequently treated as its past participle and past tense (as if = conques + t), and conformed to its variant spellings, as conqueist, -queast, -quist.
Scottish. Obsolete.
