Primary stress is generally retained by the usual stressed syllable of the preceding element (e.g. ganglioside n.), but is sometimes attracted to the syllable immediately preceding this suffix (e.g. anthocyanoside n.). Vowels may be reduced accordingly.

Origin: Formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: -ose suffix², -ide suffix.
