Origin: Formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: conception n., -ist suffix.
Etymology: < conception n. + -ist suffix.In senses A. 2 and B. after French conceptionniste (1677 or earlier as noun, 1778 or earlier as adjective) and its probable etymon Spanish concepcionista (1654 or earlier as noun, 1664 or earlier as adjective), respectively denoting and designating nuns belonging to the Congregation of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
