Origin: Of multiple origins. Partly a borrowing from French. Partly formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: French concelement ; conceal v., -ment suffix.
Etymology: Partly (i) < Anglo-Norman concelement, conselement, conselment suppression of information to the injury or prejudice of another person, hiding of stolen goods, act of withholding something (all late 13th cent. or earlier; < conceler conceal v. + -ment -ment suffix), and partly (ii, in later use) < conceal v. + -ment suffix. Compare post-classical Latin concelamentum (frequently from late 12th cent. in British sources).
