Origin: A borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element; originally modelled on a French lexical item. Etymons: Latin amor , -ism suffix.
Etymology: < classical Latin amor love (see Amor n.) + -ism suffix, originally after French amorisme (1846 in the passage translated in quot. 1851; now rare). Compare earlier amorist n.
Amorous feelings or behaviour; romantic or sexual love or involvements.
