Etymology: < Hellenistic Greek -οψία, combining form (in e.g. αὐτοψία autopsy n.) < -οπτος (see optic adj. and n.) + -ία -ia suffix¹. Compare post-classical Latin -opsia . Compare -opsy comb. form.Formations are found from the beginning of the 19th cent. Combining chiefly with first elements of Greek origin, although compare quadrantanopsia n. with a first element of Latin origin.
