Etymology: Variant of companable adj., perhaps with medial -ni- , -ny- graphically representing the palatalized nasal in the French forms cited at companable adj., but reinforced by association with company n. and other adjectives ending in -iable . Compare accompaniable, variant of accompanable adj.
Sociable, friendly, companionable; characterized by friendliness. Also in extended use.
