Any of various birds of the starling family ( Sturnidae) found in South and South-East Asia, typically having dark plumage, gregarious behaviour, and a loud call, some of which can mimic the human voice; esp. (a) Acridotheres tristis, which is brown and black with a white patch on the wings and has been introduced in southern Africa, Australia, and elsewhere (more fully common myna); (b) Gracula religiosa, which is black with a yellow lappet on the side of the head and is popular as a cage bird because of its ability as a mimic (more fully hill myna).
