Etymology: < comfort n. + eat v., after comfort eating n.
intransitive. To consume food in an attempt to alleviate feelings of anxiety, boredom, negativity, etc., rather than to satisfy hunger, typically large quantities of food with a high sugar or fat content. Also transitive: to consume (such food) for this reason.
