Etymology: Middle English confyt , < Old French confit, confite < Latin confectum , confecta , noun uses of confectus , confecta , confectum , past participle of conficĕre to prepare, make ready ( < com- together + facere to make), whence French confire to preserve, pickle, etc. (Compare confect n.) The change of con- to com-, before f, is English.
