A newcomer or recent arrival; spec. an illegitimate child. Also: an animal that attaches itself to a person or place of its own accord. Sc. National Dict. (at Come) records this word (in the specific sense ‘illegitimate child’) as still in use in Aberdeenshire in 1937.
