commitment fee n. (a) a fee paid upon the committal of a person into custody, esp. (in early use) by a new prisoner to the warden of the prison in return for private accommodation and other privileges (now rare); (b) Finance a fee charged by a bank to keep open a line of credit or to continue to make existing loan facilities available to a potential borrower.
