Etymology: < commodity n. + -ization suffix. Compare later commoditize v.
The action or process of treating a person or thing as property which can be traded or whose value is purely monetary; the treatment of a person or thing as a commodity (commodity n. 3b). Also in later use: the action or process of making a product widely available and, as a consequence, more difficult to distinguish from competing offerings. Cf. commodification n.
