English regional (northern and east midlands) (now chiefly historical) the day before Shrove Tuesday, on which bacon and eggs were traditionally eaten.Celebration of Collop Monday had ceased in most areas by the end of the 19th century, with the exception of Meltham in Huddersfield (see quots. 1939 and 2018).
