Etymology: < post-classical Latin aggregato- (formations in which are found from the first half of the 19th cent. or earlier, e.g. aggregato-glomeratus (1838 or earlier), aggregato-gemmatus (1839 or earlier), aggregato-implicatus (1842 or earlier), all in botanical contexts), combining form of classical Latin aggregātus aggregate adj.Found in a small number of adaptations of post-classical Latin zoological terms, exemplified below, from the first half of the 19th cent. N.E.D. (1884) gives the pronunciation as (ægrĭgēⁱ:to) /æɡrɪˌɡeɪtəʊ/.
