Origin: Of uncertain origin. Perhaps formed within English, by derivation. Perhaps a variant or alteration of another lexical item. Etymons: English *aggravidize , -ation suffix; aggrandization n.
Etymology: Origin uncertain. Either < an unattested verb *aggravidize ( < ad- prefix + classical Latin gravidus gravid adj. + -ize suffix) + -ation suffix, or perhaps a compositorial error for aggrandization n. (although this is first attested slightly later).
Obsolete. rare.
Increase of gravity or seriousness; aggravation.
