Origin: A borrowing from Greek, combined with an English element. Etymons: aero- comb. form, Greek πλευστικός.
Etymology: < aero- comb. form + Hellenistic Greek πλευστικός belonging to sailing < Byzantine Greek πλευστής sailor (although this is first attested later (5th cent.); < ancient Greek πλεῖν to sail (see pleon n.1) + -τής , suffix forming agent nouns) + -ικός -ic suffix.The -σ- in πλευστής is unetymological, although the form may be modelled on other agent nouns in -στής.

Of or relating to the use of large sails for providing motive power to boats and land vehicles and to individuals in flight.Used only by and with reference to George Pocock.
