Etymology: < Cl, chemical symbol for chlorine (see Cl n. at C n. Additions) + io- (in iodine n.) + quinol- (in quinoline n.).
Pharmacology.
A halogenated derivative of quinoline that has been used as an antiseptic to treat mild ear infections, intestinal amoebiasis, diarrhoea, and skin infections; 5-chloro-8-hydroxy-7-iodoquinoline, C9H5NOClI.
