Etymology: Irregularly < climax n. + -ic suffix, probably partly after e.g. syntactic adj., and partly after climacteric adj. Compare earlier climactically adv.Compare the following earlier example, where the word appears to be a variant of, or error for climacteric adj.; compare climatic adj.1:1638 T. Herbert Some Yeares Trav. (rev. ed.) ii. 280 In the great Clymactick yeare he also dyed; suspected to be poysoned.
