Etymology: < classicist n. + -ic suffix, perhaps after German klassizistisch (1839 or earlier as †klassicistisch in a review of a literary history; now chiefly as a technical term in art history, especially in the history of architecture). Compare earlier classicism n. Compare slightly later neoclassical adj.
That imitates or is influenced by classical models; characterized by classicism.
