Etymology: < post-classical Latin Aeolismus (1564 or earlier) < ancient Greek αἰολίζειν to speak the Aeolic dialect ( < Αἰολίς (see Aeolian adj.) + -ίζειν -ize suffix) + post-classical Latin -ismus -ism suffix; originally via French Éolisme (1702 in the passage translated in quot. 1712).
