Origin: A variant or alteration of another lexical item; perhaps partly modelled on an Italian lexical item. Etymon: citronelle n.
Etymology: Alteration of citronelle n. after -ella suffix, and perhaps also after Italian cedronella lemon balm, melissa (1544; a1556 as †cetronella). Compare post-classical Latin citronella lemon-scented plant (1606 or earlier).
