Carius 1864, in Ann. der Chem. u. Pharm. 129 160; < Citra- (in Citraconsäure citraconic acid: see citraconic adj.) + Weinsäure tartaric acid), with remodelling of the ending in English (see -ic suffix). Compare citramalic adj.In form citrotartaric showing alteration after words in citro- comb. form.

Chemistry. Now rare or disused.
