单词 adzuki
释义

adzukin.

Brit. /adˈzuːki/, U.S. /ædˈzuki/
Forms: 1700s– atsuki, 1700s– adsuki, 1800s– adzuki, 1800s– aduki, 1800s– azuki.
Origin: A borrowing from Japanese. Etymon: Japanese azuki.
Etymology: < Japanese azuki (earlier adzuki; 10th cent. or earlier; 1603 as azzuqi in Vocabulario da Lingoa de Iapam; also regional atsuki), of uncertain and disputed origin. Also known in Japanese as shōzu , literally ‘small bean’ (compare quot. 17271; < Middle Chinese), but the two kanji characters used to write this word are more commonly read azuki (i.e. felt to represent a single morpheme). The form aduki reflects a former Romanization based on historical phonemes rather than contemporary pronunciation (Nihonshiki system).
More fully adzuki bean. The dark red edible bean of the leguminous plant Vigna angularis, a bushy annual cultivated in China and Japan; such beans collectively (now rare). Also: the plant itself. Cf. red bean n. 1.
