Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French chicanerie.
Etymology: < Middle French chiquanerie, French chicanerie petty quibbling, trickery (especially in a legal context), also an act or instance of this (15th cent.) < chicaner chicane v. + -erie -ery suffix.With the β. forms, which were apparently stressed on the first syllable, compare -ry suffix.
1. The use of deception or subterfuge to achieve one's purpose, esp. a legal, financial, or political purpose; petty quibbling or (esp. legal) trickery.
