Etymology: The same as cheney, variant of china n.0 (rather its Persian form chīnī); see china n.2 Compare Littré, Chiné, étoffes chinées, < chiner (with weavers) to give different colours to the threads of the warp, and arrange these so as to produce a pattern; Italian ‘far i drappi alla Chinese’.
Obsolete.
