释义 | Chinatownn. An area of a city inhabited mainly by people of Chinese origin or acting as a social and cultural centre for the Chinese community living in and around the city; the Chinese quarter. Usually as a proper noun.From the 19th cent. with reference to populations of Chinese immigrants in English-speaking countries, originally the United States. In this use formerly often with negative connotations of criminality (see, e.g., earlier examples at Compounds), but now typically used with more positive connotations and frequently associated with Chinese shops and restaurants.
