Etymology: Apparently < a variant of choke n.1 + tooth n. Compare earlier cheek tooth n.In early use only in the works of R. Percyvall, a native of south-west England. Eng. Dial. Dict. records the word from Gloucestershire and Somerset; Surv. Eng. Dial. likewise from Monmouthshire, Gloucestershire, and Somerset. Compare the later English regional (south-western) variants chuck and chock at choke n.1
