Etymology: < German chromaffine (A. Kohn 1898, in Prager Med. Wochenschr. XXIII. No. 17), < chrom- chromo- comb. form 1 + Latin affīnis akin.
Histology.
Stained brown on exposure to chromic acid or its salts; applied esp. in humans and the higher vertebrates to the adrenal medulla and the paraganglia.
