A pale yellow crystalline ketone, 1,3-diphenyl-2-propen-1-one, C₆H₅CH=CHC(O)·C₆H₅. More widely: any of a large class of ketones which are substituted derivatives of this and include many hydroxylated compounds involved in the synthesis of flavonoids by plants.
