Origin: A borrowing from Hindi. Etymon: Hindi cāyvālā.
Etymology: < Hindi cāyvālā < Urdu cāy tea (see chai n.2) + Hindi -vālā , suffix expressing possession or belonging (see wallah n.).
South Asian (originally Anglo-Indian).
A person who sells tea (and sometimes other drinks), typically on the street or from a small roadside establishment.
