Etymology: < classical Latin affūs-, past participial stem of affundere to pour on < af- , variant of ad- (see af- prefix) + fundere fuse v.2 Compare earlier affused adj. and also effuse v.
1. transitive. To pour (a liquid) over or into something (chiefly with on or upon). Also (in passive): to have a liquid poured over. Now rare.Chiefly in scientific contexts.
