单词 affrontery
释义

affronteryn.

Brit. /əˈfrʌnt(ə)ri/, U.S. /əˈfrəntəri/
Origin: Probably of multiple origins. Probably partly formed within English, by derivation; modelled on a French lexical item. Probably partly a variant or alteration of another lexical item. Etymons: affront v., -ery suffix; effrontery n.
Etymology: Probably partly (i) < affront v. + -ery suffix, after French affronterie deception (1st half of the 16th cent. in Middle French), bravado, shamelessness (1574); and partly (ii) a variant or alteration of effrontery n., perhaps by association with affront v., affront n.
= effrontery n.
