Etymology: < the name of Christian Frederik (1786–1848), Crown Prince of Denmark and later King (from 1839, as Christian VIII) + -ite suffix¹. In sense 1 after Italian cristianite ( T. Monticelli & N. Covelli Prodromo della mineralogia vesuviana (1825) 428), in honour of Prince Christian Frederik who explored Vesuvius together with the authors. In sense 2 after French christianite (A. Descloizeaux 1847, in Compt. rendus hebd. de l'Acad. des Sci. 25 710).

Mineralogy. Now historical and rare.
