Etymology: < Christiania, the former name of the capital of Norway (changed to Oslo in 1925); in simplex use and in Christiania swing after Norwegian kristianiasving (1903 or earlier). Compare christie n.This skiing turn was used by the Norwegian skier Sondre Norheim (1825–97) in 1868 at a skiing race in Iversløkka near Christiania. Although Norheim may not have been the inventor of this technique, he was later given much of the credit for it.
