Christian humanism n. (a) a school of thought, prevalent in the 16th cent., emphasizing the value of the study of classical languages and literature to Christian theology and culture; cf. humanism n. 3b; (b) the view that the principles of humanism (humanism n. 5a) and Christian faith are intrinsically compatible; practice or beliefs based on this; cf. humanism n. 5b, and secular humanism n. at secular adj. and n.
