Etymology: < German cörulignon (C. Liebermann 1872, in Berichte der Deutsch. Chem. Ges. 5 746), < Latin caeruleus (also written coeruleus ) dark blue + lignum wood + -one (in quinone n.).
Chemistry.
A quinone derivative, C16H16O6, which is obtained when wood-vinegar is treated with potassium dichromate and which crystallizes in small bluish-grey needles.
