Etymology: < post-classical Latin adventualis relating to Advent (1536 or earlier) < classical Latin adventus (see advent n.) + -ālis -al suffix1. With sense 2 compare earlier adventitial adj., adventitious adj., and perhaps also eventual adj.
1. Of or relating to the season of Advent, or to Christ's advent on earth (see advent n.); (in later use also) of or relating to belief in the Second Coming of Christ (cf. Adventist n.).
