单词 adventine
释义

adventineadj.

Origin: Partly a variant or alteration of another lexical item. Probably also partly a borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element. Etymons: adventive adj.; Latin advent- , advenīre , -ine suffix1.
Etymology: Originally a misreading of adventive adj.; compare quot. 1626 at adventive adj. 1. In later use probably partly reflecting the use in Johnson (so in quot. 1850), but perhaps partly (in quot. 1807) independently formed < classical Latin advent-, past participial stem of advenīre (see advene v.) + -ine suffix1. Compare earlier adventitious adj.
Obsolete. rare.
= adventitious adj. 1.Recorded earliest by Johnson (1755) where it represents a misreading of adventive (cf. quot. 1626 at adventive adj. 1). In quot. 1807 apparently representing a genuine use of the word, either in response to its inclusion in Johnson and subsequent dictionaries, or as a separate coinage.
