Etymology: < post-classical Latin advehent-, advehens (1828 in venae advehentes (plural) advehent veins, or earlier), specific use (as adjective) of classical Latin advehent-, advehēns, present participle of advehere to bring < ad- ad- prefix + vehere to carry (see vehicle n.). Compare devehent adj., revehent adj.

Chiefly Zoology and Embryology. Now rare.

Carrying towards, afferent; spec. designating the veins leading to the kidney in a renal portal system.
