A projection or outshoot of a forest, mountain range, or some other physical feature.

North American regional (New York) and South African. A branch of a river. Cf. sprout, v.1 8. Obsolete.

Each of two (or more) lateral projections, arms, or branches. The branches of a river or estuary, the narrow arms of a bay (Latin cornua).

Esp. in Australia: a branch stream which turns out of a river and re-enters it lower down.

A river branch which flows away from the main stream without returning to it, as in a delta; a similar branch of a glacier.
