Origin: Apparently formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: centre v., -ation suffix.
Etymology: Apparently < centre v. + -ation suffix. With sense 1 compare French centration (1677 or earlier), post-classical Latin centratio (1682 or earlier; frequently attributed to Paracelsus, but apparently not attested in his works). In sense 2 after French centration (J. Piaget, 1943 or earlier in this sense).
