Origin: Formed within English, by compounding; perhaps modelled on a French lexical item. Etymons: chamber n., pot n.1
Etymology: < chamber n. + pot n.1, perhaps after Middle French pot de chambre pot de chambre n. (although this is apparently first attested slightly later). Compare Middle Dutch (diminutive) camerpotgen (Dutch kamerpot).
A bowl kept in a bedroom and used for the discharge of urine, etc., esp. at night. Cf. chamber n. 7, pot de chambre n.
