Chemistry.
Any of a class of salt-like organic compounds containing anions of the form RO, where R is an alkyl group, typically formed by the reaction of alcohols with metals. Also: any compound containing a group —OR bonded directly to a metal atom.The simplest alkoxide ions are methoxide, CH3O, and ethoxide, C2H5O.
