Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin cazimi.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin cazimi (1539 or earlier in in cazimi), representing a misreading of Arabic taṣmīm situation of a planet which is ‘in the heart’, itself after ancient Greek ἐγκάρδιος in the heart, as used in Byzantine Greek (6th or early 7th cent. in this sense in Rhetorius Compendium).Previous versions of the OED give the stress as: ˈcazimi.
Astrology. Obsolete.
‘Among the Arabian astronomers the center or middle of the sun’ (Chambers Cycl. Supp.). in cazimi: said of a planet when distant not more than 17 minutes, or half its apparent diameter, from the sun.In Phillips.
