Origin: A borrowing from Swedish. Etymon: Swedish celsian.

Etymology: < Swedish celsian (H. Sjögren 1895, in Geol. Föreningens i Stockholm Förhandl. 17 579) < the name of Anders Celsius (see Celsius n. and adj.) + -an -an suffix.

Mineralogy.

A colourless, white, or pale yellow mineral of the monoclinic crystal system which is a barium-containing feldspar, BaAl₂Si₂O₈, dimorphous with paracelsian and occurring mostly in association with manganese deposits.

1995 Glass (Nexis) July s2 Sol-gel barium osumilite..was the dominant phase after 3h at 1200°C. Despite this, small amounts of celsian, hexacelsian and cordierite were present even after prolonged heat treatment.
