单词 cellulo-
释义

cellulo-comb. form

Stress is usually determined by a subsequent element and vowels may be reduced accordingly. Some degree of stress is always maintained on the first syllable. If the subsequent element is an existing word, it is likely to retain its original stress pattern, e.g. cellulo-fibrous Brit. /ˌsɛljᵿlə(ʊ)ˈfʌɪbrəs/, U.S. /ˌsɛljəloʊˈfaɪbrəs/.
Origin: Either (i) formed within English, by derivation; probably partly modelled on a French lexical item. Or (ii) a borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element; probably partly modelled on a French lexical item. Etymons: cellule n., -o- connective; Latin cellula , -o- connective.
Etymology: < cellule n. or its etymon classical Latin cellula + -o- connective, in later use probably partly after French cellulo- (formations in which are found from at least the beginning of the 19th cent., e.g. cellulo-vasculaire (1801 or earlier; compare cellulo-vascular), cellulo-adipose (1833 or earlier; compare cellulo-adipose), etc.).Found from the late 18th cent. in a small number of formations exemplified below. Combining chiefly with second elements ultimately of Latin origin.
