单词 akan
释义

Akann.adj.

Brit. /əˈkɑːn/, U.S. /ɑˈkɑn/, West African English /aˈkan/
Inflections: Plural unchanged, Akans.
Origin: A borrowing from an Akan language.
Etymology: < a self-designation in an Akan language (compare Fante okanni , plural akanfoo , literally ‘forefathers’, ultimately < -kan first). Compare French Akan (1782 in royaume d'Akan , literally ‘Akan realm’, used to denote an area in the interior of West Africa, or earlier). Compare earlier Akani n. and discussion at that entry.Compare: 1897 J. M. Sarbah Fanti Customary Laws i. 3 The words ‘Akan’ (Akanfu) arose probably from the way the Mfantsifu referred to those who remained at Takieman. The word Akan to our mind means a remnant.
