Etymology: < scientific Latin cedron, specific epithet (in Simaba cedron , J. E. Planchon in London Jrnl. Bot. 5 (1846) 556), apparently < American Spanish cedrón (not dated in dictionaries of Spanish), probably < Spanish cedro cedar n. + -ón -oon suffix. Compare French cédron (1850 or earlier), German Cedrone (1848 or earlier).Previous versions of the OED give the stress as: ˈcedron.
a. A small tree of Colombia and parts of Central America ( Simaba Cedron, family Simarubaceæ).
