The unit's mission was to maintain helicopter logistics airlift capability, to perform air land supply operations, scheduled and special airlift operations, and conduct training.

It maintained a roster of more than 300 experts ready to serve and continued to conduct training.

During this time, teams will sometimes congregate at an outside location, usually a university, to conduct training camp for at least the first few weeks.

Also, highly specialized equipment and staff were underused, and there was an overall shortage of specialized facilities to conduct training.

Additional units rotate to the base periodically to conduct training exercises.
